  A Nigerian woman has openly stated her plans to pursue legal action for divorce from her husband, claiming that he enlisted the services of an “agebro” to physically assault her. The woman asserts that, despite being married for just eight months, her husband opted to employ a female tout, known as an “agebro,” to assault her following a disagreement that transpired two months earlier. The wife clarified that her husband had never directly subjected her to physical abuse, and she had never provoked such behavior. President  Bola Tinubu  says his administration is making efforts to raise at least $10 billion to increase foreign exchange (FX) liquidity, stabilise the naira and grow the economy. Tinubu made this known at the inauguration of the public wealth management conference organised by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) on Tuesday in Abuja. He said there was a need to identify, consolidate and maximise returns on government-owned assets worth trillions of naira. During a meeting initiated by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and attended by his counterparts from the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, including Doris Uzoka-Anite, in Abuja on Monday, February 19, efforts were made to identify the underlying reasons for the abrupt increase in commodity prices. The manufacturers present also expressed their readiness to willingly bring down the prices in future as soon as the federal government intervention are fulfilled.

  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor,  Olayemi Cardoso , has described his job as the second most difficult on earth. This is as he said the Federal Government’s reform and other actions are paying off. Cardoso spoke Sunday in Abuja at the opening of the 2024 First Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN). In his words: “I will continue to remember that in spite of (my job) the second most difficult job on the face of the planet, this is really something that remains very memorable.” Cardoso, who was the Chairman of the occasion, expressed optimism that despite all the difficulties, there is light at the end of the tunnel.  “As a result of some of the recent reports from the CBN, over the course of the last week, about $1.8bn came into the markets.”

  The Federal Government has announced a 24-hour closure on the Third Mainland Bridge for Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic from midnight on Sunday, February 18 to midnight on Monday, February 19. Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, said this in a statement on Saturday night. She said the emergency measure followed the government’s decision to fix an important section of the bridge undergoing comprehensive repairs.   President  Bola Tinubu   has declared that he would not approve the importation of food or establish a price control board. Tinubu said this on Thursday, following a meeting with the 36 state governors, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, National Security Adviser, NSA, and Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja. Also, following reports from Kano State and other areas about large-scale hoarding of food in some warehouses, the President said during the meeting that he had instructed the NSA, Inspector-General of Police, and Director-General of DSS, to coordinate closely to ensure that security agencies in the states inspect such warehouses and take follow-up action. “We cannot allow speculators, hoarders, and rent seekers to undermine our efforts in ensuring that food is widely available to all Nigerians,” Tinubu vowed on X. Kolawole Akinsanya has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for his alleged involvement in orchestrating an attack with thugs that led to the death of his neighbor, Lukmon Ajibola, in Ilepa, Ifo Local Government Area. The tragic incident unfolded on February 5 around 8 pm when Akinsanya’s goat entered Ajibola’s compound and consumed dried yams. In response, Akinsanya reportedly beat the baby goat to death. When Ajibola confronted him about this, an argument ensued, and Akinsanya allegedly summoned hoodlums who assaulted Ajibola. Found lying motionless, Ajibola was rushed to Zion Hospital in Ilepa and later transferred to the State Hospital in Otta, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Akinsanya was subsequently arrested by the police, while the accomplices fled the community. Confirming Akinsanya’s arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, assured ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
